Local Authority maintained schools Insurance products

The Council’s service comprises not only insurance cover provision, but also the provision of services including claims handling, assessment of liability, negotiating settlement of claims where appropriate, payment of claims where due, tendering for insurances, appointment of insurers, liaison with insurers and brokers regarding policy queries, insurance advice to both schools and other parties – for example, potential claimants, hirers, visitors, staff, pupils, and so on – as well as risk management advice to schools, and the appointment, monitoring and payment of external specialists – for example, claims handlers, loss adjusters, solicitors.

The core Combined Insurance comprises of:

  • Liability insurance
  • Buildings (Fire) insurance
  • Contents and Fabric (formerly Damage/Loss Risk Pool)
  • Travel insurance
  • Hirers’ Liability insurance

Other package insurances are available:

  • Maternity, Paternity and Adoption Absence Risk Pooling
  • Motor Insurance

Note, the Council’s Staff Absence scheme will not be available from 1 April 2023.

Details of the schemes, including purchasing instructions, will be emailed to schools prior to 1 April renewal.
