Why host a trainee teacher?

Suffolk and Norfolk SCITT is changing its name to Norfolk, Essex and Suffolk Teacher Training (NESTT) to reflect that we are now working with a well-reputed Essex based partner.

We appreciate how busy school life is – and involvement in ITT can feel like ‘just one more thing’ – but below are a few of the ways that supporting ITT can benefit your school:

1 – Staff development for the existing workforce, e.g. leadership and development skills for mentors.

2 – Help shape the training that teachers receive to ensure that it equips them with the necessary skills to become outstanding classroom practitioners.

3 – The injection of fresh ideas into the workforce, through energetic and enthusiastic people coming into the school who are able to share up-to-date pedagogical knowledge and ideas.

4 – Benefit from having an additional adult within the classroom, supporting teaching and learning and improving pupil progress.

5 – Recruitment – Hosting trainee teachers can give schools early access to potential new staff. 6 – The Moral Imperative – If schools don’t engage in ITT, we won’t be able to train teachers and the challenges around teacher supply will increase.
