Architect and TV presenter George Clarke, his charity MOBIE, Lovell and Suffolk County Council are inviting the young people of Suffolk to submit their ideas for new sustainable homes and places for the county. Lovell and Suffolk County Council have formed a joint venture company, Edmundham Developments, that will be creating high quality, sustainable homes and communities across Suffolk.
This challenge will ask young people to design homes and green spaces for a site in Newmarket that are good for people and good for the planet. MOBIE has run design challenges for young people across the country – https://www.mobie.org.uk/challenges – this is the first in East Anglia. A draft of the challenge brief is attached as a pdf and it will be placed on the MOBIE website when the challenge is launched, together with other supporting materials. The challenge will launch in October with entries to be submitted in January 2024. There will be supporting materials for teachers and students and the chance to join webinars hosted by industry about the challenge, housing and sustainable development. The challenge is relevant to STEAM subjects, including geography and Design and Technology and to the Gatsby Benchmarks 4 and 5. Further information will be published in September.
