For young people and students with SEND who may find making their own way to school or college challenging, SCC offer a free Independent Travel Training Service.
Travel Training teaches students with SEND a safe way of travelling independently which builds self-esteem and confidence. Being able to travel on public transport is a key life skill and helps students to fulfil their potential. It covers all aspects of travelling independently, such as stranger danger, using timetables and what to do if something goes wrong.
We train students from Yr 7 into adulthood. The main students we support are transitioning to college. With decisions being made for Post 16 provisions, now is a good time to consider a referral to the Travel Training Service to help prepare for September 2022.
For further information please visit Suffolk on Board – Travel Training and Essex Travel Training (travel-training.co.uk). Essex County Council are commissioned to deliver the service for SCC.
