FAO: Leaders, phase leaders, subject leaders and teachers of Religious Education (RE) in all schools in Suffolk
The Local Authority (LA) is looking for leaders and teachers of RE to join Suffolk’s SACRE to advise and shape the provision of RE in its schools. This is an excellent professional development opportunity to work in partnership between the LA and its communities. Meetings are held once a term with follow up tasks to complete.
The local authority (LA) has a statutory duty to create a standing advisory council on religious education (SACRE). SACRE’s role is to advise the LA on matters related to the RE in its schools, which must follow a locally agreed syllabus, and on collective worship in schools.
Suffolk SACRE is a partnership between the LA and its communities. It is led by Karen Harman. SACRE meets at least once a term, and minutes/agendas are made available on the Suffolk Learning website. They are open meetings and members of the public are welcome to attend.
Suffolk SACRE is currently looking for leaders and teachers in schools who could join the group to offer their expertise.
Suffolk’s SACRE consists of four committees each representing a different group or ‘constituency’. We are seeking new members to join committees a, b and c below:
Committee A – The Christian denominations (other than the Church of England) and other religions
Committee B – The Church of England
Committee C – Teacher and headteacher associations and others representing education interests
Committee D – The local authority
As part of your work supporting the group in a voluntary capacity, you will be involved with matters concerned with the provision of RE and collective worship, and with ensuring compliance. This will provide you with a great way to expand your own knowledge whilst working with other professionals, but also provide you with a potential career development opportunity in the future.
Applicants would be asked to complete an expression of interest to apply to join the group.
For more information and to discuss what the role would mean to you, please contact Karen Harman or Simon Nortcliffe, using their email addresses below:
