Supporting Children and Young People with their Mental Health

This 1-day session will allow learners to understand the nature and dimensions of mental health and emotional wellbeing, recognise the signs and symptoms of emotional health problems, and provide tools for applying this knowledge to their conversations with children and young people.

  • Evaluate the systemic challenges a child or young person may face and begin to formulate strategies to support and maintain mental health.
  • Feel confident they have a toolkit which can be readily and easily implemented within practice.

Please note: This session will contain challenging material and discussion around trauma, abuse, self-harm, drug and alcohol abuse and suicidal ideation. We want everyone to feel empowered to look after their own mental health and well-being and we know that many people choose to work with children and young people because of their own life experiences, which can be traumatic. There are no prizes for being brave and if this session is not right for you at this time, we support your decision. Anyone who would like to attend but would like a debrief can be supported to access this after the event.
