This week highlights one of the most serious and complex mental health issues for any individual or family to overcome – an eating disorder. Please help raise awareness to your parents and carers of the following places that families can go to find eating disorder information and support:
‘Eat Well, Feel Well’ Campaign – This campaign on the Suffolk County Council website, offers families lots of tips and advice about eating well for our physical and mental health, how to improve our relationship with food, and where to find support for eating problems.
Emotional Wellbeing Gateway Eating Disorders Page – The Gateway website has information and advice for parents, carers, and professionals to help them spot the signs of an eating disorder in children and young people, and also includes eating disorder mental health support services.
The Source Eating Disorders Advice Page for Young People – The Source website provides information and support to young people in Suffolk on various emotional wellbeing issues which includes eating disorders.
‘Men Get Eating Disorders Too’ – This is a new campaign from the BEAT Eating Disorders Charity to raise awareness of eating disorders amongst men and boys. BEAT offers a range of eating disorders support to parents and students on their website.
Wednesday’s Child – Are a local eating disorders charity that provide a variety of information, support, and workshops to families and schools that help with eating disorder prevention and recovery.
Kooth – Kooth is an online emotional wellbeing counselling and chat service for young people (aged 11-25) where they can talk about anything they are worried about. Their website offers peer to peer support.
ChatHealth Service – Lets young people speak to a school nurse for support and advice on any health concern.
